CONFIDENCE AND REJOICING
Hebrews 3:6, But Christ as a Son over His Own house; Whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
If in the above verse I believe is a key issue.
“If,” we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Well, what does it mean? This “if” points to something; what is it? It points to being, “the House which Christ is a Son over.”
And being a part of that House seems, according to this verse, to be contingent on if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Some of us do seem to understand the importance of holding fast the confidence (faith in what Christ accomplished for us at the Cross), but how many of us understand the importance of holding fast the rejoicing?
We have received the greatest gift in the Universe. What Christ has done for us and given to us freely (eternal life), is better than anything which we could possibly imagine. Rejoicing comes from thankfulness. If we are truly thankful, let us also truly rejoice.
There must be something powerfully important about this rejoicing for this verse includes rejoicing right along with confidence in Christ as of like importance, in order for us to be part of the House which Christ is a Son over.
I believe in my heart that the reason for the importance of rejoicing is because rejoicing brings out our confidence. Without the rejoicing, it is more difficult to maintain our confidence.
