DARKNESS

The other night it was cloudy when I walked outside of our house. The farther I went from the house the darker it got.
I could have told the darkness to leave, but I knew that would do no good whatsoever. The only thing that would extinguish the darkness was light. If I would have had a flashlight, I could have actually prevented a part of the darkness with that light.
Romans 12:21 says, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Just as we would not try to overcome a dark night with more darkness, neither should we try to overcome evil with evil. We overcome evil with good the same as we overcome darkness with light.

ALL THINGS

All sin, and weights which beset us and wrongdoing which encumbers us, must be dealt with the same way as darkness.
We do not tell sin to simply go away (although when recognized we do repent of it), we add the Righteousness of Christ to the situation and sin is thereby defeated, because sin was defeated at Calvary by the Blood and Body of Christ.

Any time a Christian finds themselves doing something which they know is wrong, they must approach their wrongdoing in the proper way in order for it to be taken care of properly and to not have a detrimental effect on their life.
It is so easy, and we are so very inclined to just say, well I’m sorry I did it and from now on I am just going to be more careful not to do that wrong thing again. But you see at this point we have just told the darkness to go away, without the use of any kind of light to extinguish that darkness.
John 8:12 says, “Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.
It seems to me from what Jesus said here that the answer to the problem of walking in darkness (and sinning is walking in darkness) is to simply follow Jesus. By this I mean what Jesus said in Luke 9:23,  “if any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross (the same one which Christ died on, Gal. 2:20) daily, and follow me.
Taking up the Cross of Christ daily is very important because whenever you are in a dark place you need to keep the light on.

When an unbeliever wants to get rid of the sin in his life, he must come to Jesus. The Light will obliterate the darkness and the unbeliever will receive redemption through the Blood of Christ. If he then continues to trust in Christ each day, the Light of Christ will shine in his life always, and any sin problems will be extinguished by the Light (all sin problems, regardless of what they may be, or how they are disguised, or for that matter what they may be called, can only be defeated by what Christ accomplished through his life, death, and resurrection).
When a Believer is having a sin problem (unfortunately, Christians do many times have problems with sin), he must do the same. Trust in Christ each and every day. If we keep our trust in Christ current, we will find that the Light of Christ will also be current and extinguish the problems we are having with any type of wrong doing.

HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirits presence within us is what makes it possible to have the victory because of what Christ has done for us.
Gal. 5:16 This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Rom.8:2 For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of Sin and Death.

So we see that our trusting in Christ each day and each moment is what allows the Holy Spirit to bring to bare within us, the power, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and perception which is necessary to live a Holy Life, not having spot or wrinkle.
Actually, because the darkness is extinguished by what Christ has done for us, we now receive that power through the Holy Spirit to live a Holy life. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God.
