FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS
Rom. 10:3, For they being ignorant of God’s Righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the Righteousness of God.
4. For Christ is the end of the Law for Righteousness to everyone who believes.
I think much of the Church world would be fairly aware of these verses.
I think most of the Church world would agree that Christ is the end of the Law for Righteousness.
Many would undoubtedly say, “well sure I believe this; we are no longer under the Law.”
A precious few would even say, “Christ has fulfilled the Law for us, that’s why we are not bound to the Law, trying to work our way to righteousness.”
However, I believe there is another message here to add to the fact that Christ fulfilled the Law on our behalf.
It’s not only that the Law is not necessary for our righteousness. It’s that Righteousness cannot even be obtained by the Law. Or another way to put it would be; the efforts which we go about trying to follow the Law(any law), will actually abrogate Righteousness.
Let me further explain it this way.
It’s not just that the Law is not required for Righteousness, but that it is required that the Law have no part in our Righteousness, for our Righteousness is the very Righteousness which Christ gives to us.
Why is this, I can hear someone saying? Aren’t we supposed to be obedient to the Law?
The Law we are to be obedient to is, “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus,” Rom. 8:2. Jesus said, in John 6:29, …..this is the work of God, that you believe on Him Whom He has sent. This is our work and our Commandment. Another verse which corroborates this is 1 John, 3:23, And this is His Commandment, That we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us Commandment.
The problem I believe is that when we try to follow Law; whether the Law of God, law made up by a church, or a law which an individual may have come up with on his own, we are in essence saying by our actions that what Christ did for us at Calvary was not enough. We need to add some actions, some works, or some ordinances in order for His perfect work at Calvary to really be effective.
Galatians 5:1-4, says pretty much the same thing. These verses are some mighty good reading for anyone who desires to understand the New Covenant a little better.
