HOLY SPIRIT
Just as the sinner needs the Holy Spirit to reveal unto him what Christ has done for him at the Cross concerning salvation, so does the Christian need the Holy Spirit to reveal unto him, how to live a Holy Christian Life, how to understand the Bible, how to pray as the Lord would have us, the reality of a world lost in sin that is on it’s way to a devils hell, and also, the importance of understanding these things.
We are often led to believe that after we are saved, these things just sorta happen for us, and we are just automatically led into all truth.
If that were true, why do not people just sorta find themselves interceding for the lost in prayer, more often?
If that were true, why do we see gossiping and backbiting going on in many Churches?
If that were true, why would we see so many different Christians interpreting the Bible differently.
THE UNREDEEMED
The sinner cannot really be expected to understand the word of
God as he ought, for the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:14).
However, by the Grace of God, Salvation by the Blood of Christ is revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit in order that he may trust in Christ for Redemption. (but even this work of the Holy Spirit is initiated by someone telling them what Jesus Christ did for them on the Cross)
THE REDEEMED
There are many things in the Word of God which would obviously be advantageous for a Christian to know. Can we come to a proper understanding of these things simply by studying the Word?
Romans 7:25, says, So then with the mind I myself serve the Law of God; but with the flesh the Law of sin. If one is following the flesh(self, to be brief), they are paying heed to their natural man, and what they are able to do of themselves. Such a man will not receive much understanding from the Holy Spirit. Because of this, said person will not be able to understand the Word of God properly, neither will he be led into a proper prayer life. Said individual will also have problems when it comes to loving his neighbor or brother in the Lord. The Holy Spirit will simply not work within a person who is not trusting exclusively in Christ for Redemption and Righteousness.
As previously stated, if that were the case then we would all come to pretty much the same conclusions.
Just as the unredeemed need revelation from the Holy Spirit in order to understand salvation, we also must have revelation from the Holy Spirit in order to understand the Word of God properly.
TRUST ONLY IN CHRIST
NOT IS OURSELVE
The Holy Spirit will work in a person who is trusting exclusively in Jesus Christ and what he accomplished on the Cross.
Anytime we start putting our trust in something we are doing (even if we do not realize that we are trusting in something else), we will be hindering the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. |
